The client is a global publisher of print and electronic products, specializing in scientific, technical, and medical books and journals; professional and consumer books and subscription services; and textbooks and other educational materials for undergraduate and graduate students as well as lifelong learners. The client publishes in a variety of print and electronic formats.
The challenge was to provide an online platform that allows students to solve accounting problems from books published by the client.
Instructors were to review the answers given
by students and grade them. The online platform needed to be integrated with Blackboard, WebCT and the client’s proprietary LMS.
For each book, a CD-ROM containing an offline version of the Accounting Software also needed to be produced. |

An online application was developed to enable authors to key in accounting problems for each book. The authors could then preview the problems and attempt them as students. Once reviewed, the problems could be delivered to students through Blackboard, WebCT or the client’s proprietary LMS. The application completely integrated with all three to enable:
- students to raise and attempt to solve problems
- students to review reports
- instructors to review reports for each student attempt
- instructors to assign grades for student responses
A separate desktop application was developed to be delivered through CD-ROMs. The online application allowed authors to export accounting problems for use with the CD-ROM application. |
