Arizona DOE’s Award-winning CIO, Mark Masterson, to Oversee Government Solutions at LearningMate

New York, NY—LearningMate announced IT veteran and former Arizona Department of Education Chief Information Officer, Mark Masterson, has joined the company as Vice President of Government Solutions.

In this role, Masterson will shift from buyer to consultant working closely with LearningMate’s technology and business intelligence teams to devise scalable and sustainable technology solutions that better support state and local education agencies.

“Mark’s experience leading education transformation, stakeholder engagement and large-scale IT systems development and deployment makes him the perfect leader to guide our organization as we develop solutions that help our state and district partners reduce costs without sacrificing quality.” Says Amit Soman, Senior Vice President of K12, Assessment and Government Solutions.

Masterson will also lend his talents to the company’s research and development efforts, focusing specifically on technology accelerators that create efficiencies and reduce costs as education agencies embrace or evolve data initiatives, improve teaching & learning systems and implement scalable classroom assessment models.

As a former state education CIO and IT executive at Fortune 500 companies including American Airlines and DHL, Masterson is no stranger to implementing complex system and data solutions. His knowledge of back-end school IT systems helped the state of Arizona revitalize its $5B school financial payment system to a cloud-based, virtual system resulting in an annual cost savings of nearly $50M across 650 districts. He also deployed the nation’s first Education Intelligence (EI) system, a system-driven student intervention technology, which provided 75,000 teachers and administrators,1.2 million students, and over 2.5 million parents access to real-time student information.

“Mark is an IT executive with immense knowledge of network and infrastructure, large-scale software development and integration, and business intelligence but that’s just part of his story. He has the unique ability to mobilize stakeholders and teams in support of complex, high-stakes initiatives where most would walk away.” Says LearningMate CEO, Samudra Sen.

Masterson’s passion for innovation has yielded several accolades. In 2014, he was honored by ComputerWorld as a “Premier 100 IT Leader.” Under his guidance, the team at Arizona’s DOE earned a Gold Medal for “Best New Education Product” by Network Products Guide in 2017 and recognition in CIO Magazine’s 2015 “Top 100 Most Innovative IT Organizations” list.

“LearningMate has a significant opportunity to help education agencies overcome the inherent technical complexities of delivering system integration and data solutions that effectively support all stakeholders from administrators and teachers to students and parents.” Says Masterson. “Now is the time to make a quantum leap in education. I’ve experienced the value LearningMate delivers first hand and I’m honored to sit on this side of the table helping my peers as they develop and execute technology portfolio strategies that contribute to the ongoing success of their teachers and learners.”
